Community Training
Community Training and Staff Development
Training (health, children’s programs, computers, administrative skills, etc.) as well as written materials to assist Seed of Hope staff and volunteers from the community in performing their services more effectively. This also increases employment opportunities for volunteers, and includes retreats for team and vision development.
Sewing Skills and Handicrafts
The Centre boasts a large Sewing Room where members of the community meet, learn to sew and create handicrafts. Local woman learn to make a variety of products which can be sold to earn income. Once learned, these skills can then be used by women in their homes so that they can earn an income while staying home with their children.
Community Education
Periodically the Centre organizes seminars to meet specific needs within the community. For example, in one seminar, banking professionals were invited to talk about Banking and Money Management. These seminars also act to build trust and communication between the Seed of Hope and the community.
Staff Development
Training is encouraged and provided to Seed of Hope staff and volunteers from the community to provide additional skills and to help each person to perform their services more effectively. Courses in health care, sewing, children’s programs, computer skills, and administration, assist Seed of Hope staff and volunteers from the community in performing their services more effectively. These new skills also increase the employment opportunities for the Centre’s volunteers.
Future Goals – Accredited Sewing Training Facility
Our sewing trainer has recently completed the Sewing and Fashion Design course at Coastal College. She hopes to become a certified instructor who can teach and grant accredited college certificates to the women who complete the sewing program at the Centre. The opportunity to obtain advanced education in a specific skill will benefit these women and add to their employability as well as their confidence.
